USI/Evansville, IN:
USI was established in 1965 as "Indiana State University-Evansville" until we separated and became University of Southern Indiana in April 1985.
"The Cone" on our campus is a unique feature that no one else has. It stands out and is used to promote USI. It is made of Indiana limestone and was supposed to be a pencil coming out of the ground to be recognized as the "pinpoint of learning" in the state, but students thought it looked like a cone and the name stuck.
Bosse Field is the third oldest ball park in the United States.
Evansville was the center point of WWII landing ship tanks that were built and used on D-Day and other invasions.
There is an LST 325 war ship in Evansville.
