SIUE/Edwardsville, IL Info:
SIUE was initially founded as a teachers college and art college. As the university has grown, the tradition and foundation of art remains and is prevalent on campus with many unique student, faculty, and visiting art installments in buildings and many outdoor locations around campus.
Our campus and surrounding land in Edwardsville were a major metropolitan area for early North American Native Americans. There are annual excavations and digs in areas on campus and just off campus where artifacts are unearthed and more is discovered about the original inhabitants of the area.
SIUE had two cougars living on campus during its history - and one is buried on campus beside a small lake near Founders Hall.
Between 1969 and 1980, near the current cross country course, campus was host to the Mississippi River Festival that included major acts including Alice Cooper, Dick Clark, Natalie Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Jefferson Starship, Kris Kristofferson, Patti LaBelle, Barry Manilow, Meat Loaf, REO Speedwagon, James Taylor, ZZ Top, and many more.
Third oldest city in Illinois.
The St Louis Arch can be seen from the third floor of buildings on campus.
Prairie Farms is headquartered in Edwardsville, IL.
Our campus is only 22 minutes from downtown STL and the international airport!
